The Things a Loving God Hates Introduction:

God is love but God hates sin. He hates all sin. But there are some sins He hates even more than others.

Proverbs 6:16–19 (NASB)

16 There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: 17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, 19 A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.

The question is, why?

Why does God hates these particular sins so much?

We are going to examine each one of the seven things listed in Proverbs 6:17-19 and define exactly what they are and discover why God hates them so much.

If we claim to love God, we are going to hate these same things too and desire repentance and rescue from the things our loving God hates.

That means that we are going to hate these things in our own lives FIRST and hate the pain and suffering they cause us and those we love.

It also means we are going to hate what God hates in in our world and desire to respond to it the way God wants us to according to His word.

So far we have covered haughty eyes, a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood. Today we are going to investigate...

“A Heart That Devises Wicked Plans”

Romans 1:18–32 (NASB)

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. A heart that devises wicked plans...

INTENTIONALLY seeks out INIQUITY.

21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
